Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification

The Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certificate Program provides foundational training in the principles and tools of the Six Sigma methodology. Designed for working professionals who are new to process improvement or work in support roles within larger Six Sigma initiatives, are new to process improvement or work in support roles within larger Six Sigma initiatives, this course introduces key concepts such as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and basic statistical thinking.

Curriculum

Participants will gain practical skills for identifying process inefficiencies, participating in problem-solving teams, and supporting data-driven decision making. Upon completion, participants will be equipped to contribute effectively to improvement projects and communicate using the language of Six Sigma.

Program Outcomes:

· Describe the Six Sigma philosophy
· Describe the phases of the problem-solving methodology (i.e., DMAIC) of Six Sigma
· Identify the basic improvement tools used in DMAIC.
· Support the implementation and control of process improvements

Topical Outline – Six Sigma Yellow Belt

Module Topic Learning Objectives
1 Introduction to Six Sigma Understand the history, goals, and principles of Six Sigma. Define roles (Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt, etc.) and benefits of Six Sigma.
2 Six Sigma Methodology – DMAIC Overview Identify and describe each phase of the DMAIC framework. Understand how Yellow Belts support each phase.
3 Define Phase Learn to define problems using project charters, identify customers (CTQs), and map high-level processes using SIPOC.
4 Measure Phase Understand data collection basics, key metrics (defects, DPMO), and process flowcharting. Introduction to basic statistics and measurement system basics.
5 Analyze Phase Recognize cause-and-effect relationships. Use tools like Fishbone Diagrams and Pareto Charts to identify root causes.
6 Improve Phase Understand brainstorming, solution generation, and simple process improvement strategies (5S, mistake proofing). Learn how to support piloting improvements.
7 Control Phase Learn how to sustain improvements with control charts, standard operating procedures, and basic control plans.
8 Yellow Belt Role in Projects Review case studies showing Yellow Belt contributions to real projects. Understand communication and teamwork best practices.
9 Final Assessment / Simulation Exercise Apply knowledge in a simulated project setting or take a final quiz to demonstrate understanding.
