The White Mountains of New Hampshire got a sprinkle of snow this recent holiday season—sweet! Getting out there before year’s end felt like the ultimate gift. But, every year, as I get older, I find myself pondering: How are my skiing skills holding up?
Skiing is more than a sport — it’s a vibe. Here’s what keeps me coming back:
- Freedom: Nothing beats that free-as-a-bird feeling.
- Scenic Beauty: Gorgeous mountain views make every run unforgettable.
- Thrill: The rush of focused exhilaration is unmatched.
- Accomplishment: That “I nailed it!” feeling at the end of the day.
- Après-Ski: Because who doesn’t love unwinding after a day on the slopes?
The past few years have brought us an avalanche of challenges and upgrades — Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industry 4.0, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), cybersecurity, and even pandemics! How did we get here? Whether on the slopes or in business, it seems to me that the same skills apply.
Look Ahead… but Stay Present
- On the Slopes: Constantly adjust your position—balance, speed, and control are everything.
- In Business: Assess where you are now—your strengths, weaknesses, and next moves.
- Key Takeaway: Stay aware of the present, but don’t forget to plan for what’s ahead.
Scan for Obstacles (and Opportunities)
- On the Slopes: Watch out for rocks, icy patches, and unexpected terrain.
- In Business: Be prepared for competition, market shifts, and surprises.
- Bonus Tip: Don’t just dodge obstacles—spot opportunities! Clear patches of snow (or business innovations) can be your next big win.
Focus, Focus, Focus!
- Confession Time: As a social butterfly, I’m easily distracted. So, I have to work hard to focus on one thing at a time.
- Why Skiing Wins: It forces me to be fully present—every turn, every shift in balance demands my full and focused attention.
- In Business: Channel that same focus into your work. It’s where the magic (and progress) happens.
Now hit the slopes—or the business landscape—with confidence. And remember, it’s all about balance, strategy, and enjoying the journey!
